Our 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue provides homeless animals a safe, loving and enriching environment as we work to find them their forever homes. While in our care, we allow our dogs and cats the opportunity to decompress and work to rehabilitate them physically, mentally and emotionally, without any time constraints. We believe that good emotional health allows pets the ability to effectively function, learn and adapt in everyday life. Our goal is not just to save, shelter and care for homeless animals; we also want to provide our community with highly adoptable pets that will be successful in a loving, supportive and committed home.
We are a group of animal advocates dedicated to making a dent in the number of euthanized pets in Maricopa County. We recognize that lack of space and resources is one of the top reasons that dogs and cats are euthanized every day in our county. Because our animal-loving hearts can't bear to live with that status quo, we want to be a solution to the problem.
Currently, we are a foster-based rescue. That means that each of our animals is placed in a foster home until they are adopted. Without those loving people who open their homes to temporarily house and care for one of our pets, we can't save any of them. Fosters are critical to our mission. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please visit our foster page.
To us, "rescuing" a dog or cat doesn't just mean pulling it from a shelter and getting it adopted. Rather, we want to offer our animals all the resources they need to be successful in a loving home. From full veterinary care to behavioral assessment and training, we believe that rescuing means going above and beyond to develop specialized plans and courses of action that will make our dogs and cats be the best addition to their forever family.
If we're an all breed rescue, why the name "Two Chihuahuas"? Well, for our founder it was pretty much the only name that made sense. Decades ago, she received two tiny chihuahua puppies for Christmas. They were the best gifts and a huge part of her life for over 16 years. Sadly, those two little chis have since crossed the rainbow bridge, but they forever hold a big place in our founder's heart. Since then, she has adopted six other rescue chihuahuas and has so much love for the tiny breed.
All of that said, we don't believe in discrimination, and we are continually saddened by the overwhelming number of dogs (big + small) that need our help. And so, Two Chihuahuas Rescue is dedicated to saving dogs and cats of all breeds. Our name just happens to be a tribute to those first two littles. They inspired a strong belief that all pets deserve to live incredibly happy lives in committed, loving homes.
We have a dream to build a rescue sanctuary here in Scottsdale, AZ. With a sanctuary location, we will be able to pull animals off the euthanasia list and provide them an enriching place to stay while we work to find their forever homes. And if some dogs or cats needed to stay forever, that would be okay, too. It would be one of the greatest blessings of having a sanctuary. To read more about our ultimate plans, click here.
